The unexpected caregiver's guide to holistic elder care. Providing elder care support , elder care resources caregivers.

Home: Welcome

Transitioning from an adult child to a caregiver is often tricky and emotional. The transition is even more challenging when it happens unexpectedly.  Having to process this role reversal while navigating the complicated and often confusing world of eldercare can be daunting and overwhelming.  What makes my experiences unique is the number of years and varying levels of care my mother has had. She's gone from living independently with a light-duty aid to spending five years in a nursing home.  In 2018 we decided to take her out of a nursing home to full-time at-home care under hospice.   It has been two years, and my mother is at home, off hospice, and is receiving full-time around the clock care provided by my sister and me.
While everyone's journey is different, my goal is to provide my readers with resources, support, and inspiration.  It certainly won't be easy, but it will be one of the most rewarding and loving thing you will ever do.
Thank you,
Ellen N. Usher, MA, JD and Eileen McGhee, MA, SHRM-CP
